A) Construction of 160 km at high speed track from Hofuf to Khurais in Saudi Arabia.
Year of Completion : 1986 Cost US$ 100.0 million
The project involved construction of 160 km length of railway line comprising UIC 60-Kg rails, vossloh fastenings and pre-stressed mono block concrete sleepers.
The track laying work was fully mechanised. The rail joints were welded by on-site flash butt welding and thermit welding processes.
The project involved 12 million cubic meters of earthwork comprising of 7 million cubic meters of earth-fill and 5 million cubic meters of excavation including rock cutting/blasting.
Maximum height of the embankment was 28 meters whereas the cutting went to a maximum depth of 23.5 meters. Rock blasting was carried in an area criss-crossed by oil/gas pipe lines which required controlled blasting. Quantity of excavation requiring blasting exceeded 2.5 million cubic meters.
The project included : - One major pre-stressed concrete road under bridge - - Two major pre-stressed concrete road-over bridges - - 43 RCC box culverts - - Sixteen oil/gas pipe crossings - - Five overhead power line crossings - - Three crossing stations
In addition, colony for staff was also constructed as a part of the project.
